Simon Clayton-Mitchell

Simon Clayton-Mitchell is an experienced information-security and technology professional who has led and delivered successful consulting assignments including: smart cities, electricity utility providers, telecom infrastructure, telecom regulators, aviation and nuclear for diverse international, regulatory, and Government clients.

Simon’s approach is intelligent, insightful, and technically advanced. Leading teams and balancing delicate internal and external demands to deliver results aligned to key business strategy and growth.

Broad experience in telecom operations and product management in Asia, coupled with over 10 years consulting for international clients in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East has forged a deep understanding of the challenges in information security faced by organisations.

Simon worked as our Head of Cyber, during which time he matured our security stance, wrote our Security Policy, and got us recertified under Cyber Essentials Plus. He was also instrumental in helping out a key client, post cyber-attack, as they developed their security assurance capability. Simon was a pleasure to work with and continues to work with our clients as a consultant.

Key achievements include:

  • Developed and implemented post-cyber-attack security assurance capability roadmap for large UK local authority.
  • Defined information security posture for specialist Agile software development house. Work included: Risk analysis of company operations; development of Security and Data Protection Policy, Disaster Recovery Policy; Obtaining Cyber Essentials (CE) and CE+ certification; Review of contracts against ICO roles of data controller/processor.
  • Research project into cyber risks of Internet-of-Things (IoT) white goods for UK GOV Department of Business, Energy, and Industrial Strategy (BEIS). Work included engagement with broad range of public sector stakeholders.
  • Project lead on strategy for mobile tower sharing in Bahrain for telecom regulator (TRA).
  • Project lead on £300M technology strategy and capital investment plan involving migration to IP architecture for a major African power utility.
  • Project lead on the design of $150M Information and Communication Technology (ICT) infrastructure for Masdar City Smart City in Abu Dhabi.
  • Founding member of Global Crossing Japan operations as 3rd employee in Japan and member of the Board of Directors – responsible for the design, build and management of operations in Japan, development of product suite.
