John Hemlin

Jon Hemlin is a highly experienced change delivery professional specialising in project and programme management. With nearly two decades of end-to-end experience, for the last 13 years, he has focused on software, system and platform delivery within complex business transformations for Centrica brands British Gas Business, British Gas Residential, British Gas New Energy, Dyno and Hive.

Jon has an in-depth appreciation of business process, internal and external customers, and the E2E operational environment. He has delivered diverse projects, programmes and platforms across multiple functions. By applying deep insights of the intricate inter-function dependencies, practicalities and impacts of change, Jon helps his clients avoid common stumbling blocks to accelerate and improve outcomes.

His holistic knowledge of functions extends to B2B, B2C, field operations, planning and dispatch, direct/indirect field labour, supply chain, warehouse management and logistics, parts control and final mile part delivery, customer ops, contact centre, billing, ECO, smart metering and connected home.

Jon is equally at home working with Waterfall and Agile methodologies, utilising appropriate levels of governance while keeping an exacting focus on quality assurance and the financial acumen for success.

Key achievements include:

  • Following Covid-19 lockdown, transitioned the SAFe Agile Release Train (ART) of a £50m field transformation programme (Dynamics365 & Azure) from a centralised collocated team to a virtual, globally dispersed programme increment delivery capability that continued to deliver successfully.

  • Delivered the proof of concept and production implementation of WalkMe products within British Gas, that dramatically increased new digital product adoption to end users and reduced non-productive training time.

  • Full lifecycle project management of the re-implementation of the British Gas smart metering middleware solution and delivery of a whole new set of SAP integrations to connect the new middleware to the existing backend SAP services, creating a platform to continue development and transition to the SMETS2 solution for smart metering.

  • Managed the Request For Proposal (RFP) launch, evaluation, supplier selection, and supplier onboarding for a >£13m Turnkey project delivery of an upgrade to the BGB SAP landscape.
